How often do we feel overwhelmed by anxiety, with our body and mind tightening up?
Workshop Description
What does it mean to be “seen” when you find yourself in a small or large spotlight? To speak in public, to address someone important, to take a stand, deliver a line, present, ask or answer questions? And what happens when, right before or during that moment, your body freezes, your mouth dries up, and panic kicks in?
Why me, dear God?
I don’t know if it helps, but… it’s not just you.
That knot in your stomach is not a personal flaw. It’s a shared human experience and can be linked to where you are, who’s watching you, how they’re watching you, how you perceive yourself, and the standards you hold your ideal self to.
The fear of exposure isn’t something we’re born with—it develops over time and grows as we grow.
Maybe it began in school, where you were ridiculed.
In presentations you prepared so thoroughly for, but your voice vanished.
At family dinners where no one listened.
In performances where you were compared or taught: “Say it perfectly or I’ll let little Johnny or Maria take your place.”
And many other places or a mix of them.
Wherever it came from, in this Dramatherapy workshop, we’ll explore the fear of exposure through a playful, imaginative premise:
What if the beloved heroes of 90s Greek TV series had stage fright?
So, using 90s characters, we’ll explore… well! I won’t spoil it for you here!
But I will tell you that Dramatherapy—as a form of psychotherapy—draws on techniques from theatre, fiction, improvisation, and storytelling to create a safe space for exploration. It gives us tools like roles, imagination, movement, and dialogue to safely try out what it feels like to expose ourselves a little, to “take up space,” to be heard.
Through these sneaky little expressive tools, we’ll try to locate the source of stage fright and approach this juicy issue with care, respect, and at your own pace.
Who is this for?
This group is for anyone who feels awkward, terrified, or frozen when they’re exposed—and who wants to express themselves more freely in daily life.
In this group, we won’t focus on perfect delivery or aesthetic outcome.
We’ll focus on expression—pure and simple.
You don’t need any performance experience. Here, “acting” means “trying,” “feeling,” “experiencing.”
All you need is the willingness to experiment.
Come as you are.
The sessions are experiential in nature, with both individual and group explorations.
Before joining the group, you’ll have a one-to-one introductory meeting.
DISCLAIMER
In this Dramatherapy workshop, we probably won’t eliminate your fear of exposure.
But we will try to locate it, recognize it, observe it—and perhaps discover (new) ways to manage it.
