Description
What’s the first word that comes to mind when you think of the “stage” in your work?
What emotions arise for you when you’re actively involved in a live performance?
How does the presence of an audience influence the way you approach your role or contribution?
For many theatre professionals, the presence of an audience may cause a continuous tension between presenting a polished performance. Whether it’s the lighting designer ensuring that each scene is perfectly illuminated, the director shaping each moment to convey a precise vision, or the actor focused on delivering their lines or moves with clarity, there’s often an underlying pressure to consider not only how they are perceived but also “how the audience likes what I delivered.” This can lead to heightened self-consciousness and a drive to meet external expectations.
This workshop explores the delicate balance between technical skill and self-expression, inviting all theatre professionals who play a role in bringing a performance to life. Through DramaTherapy techniques, participants will explore how to move beyond technical demands and let real emotions inform their work. Using hands-on exercises, we’ll learn to blend precision with emotional depth, helping everyone involved—from performers and directors to designers and crew members—bring both craft and heart into the production. This approach creates a more unified and emotionally engaging experience for both the creators and the audience.
In this 5-hour DramaTherapy workshop, we’ll explore the emotional and creative challenges faced by theatre professionals. Through a series of experiential exercises, participants will examine how audience presence, self-expression, and technical demands influence their contributions, whether on or off stage. Using techniques that involve storytelling, role-play, and reflection, we’ll dive into the dynamics of balancing professional roles with authentic self-expression.
