Description

When you hear the word “Circus,” do you think of a ball spinning on an elephant’s nose?
Or a person doing a handstand on top of four others?
When you hear the word “Dramatherapy,” do you imagine people “living” their drama by crying?

Not quite!

Contemporary Circus is much more than the impressive acrobatic moves and magical tricks we used to see in Traditional Circus – thank goodness we’ve left the elephants alone!

In its modern form, circus is an art form that involves all levels, incorporating theatre, dance, movement, music, and dramaturgy, focusing much more on expression.

Dramatherapy, on the other hand, is not a collective “drama” where we sit in a circle and cry, but rather a process of creative expression, where each person gains better self-awareness through play and improvisation!

It’s a form of psychotherapy that uses theatrical tools such as storytelling, roles, symbolic action, and more, inviting us to express, observe, and process our emotions and experiences.

Seminar Goal

At ACTivation, we combine techniques from Dramatherapy and Contemporary Circus Performance. In our session, we invite you to escape, for a while, from the everyday and familiar and allow your body to discover new ways of expression.

We won’t focus on technique or results but on the process of expression and experimentation itself.

In the end, we’ll connect these actions with your daily life.

Maybe, who knows, MAYBE, you’ll release the artist or actor hidden inside you and discover new aspects of yourself!

***

We’ll experiment on both an individual and group level.
The seminar is open to beginners; no prior knowledge or experience is required.

Facilitators

Vasiliki is a Social Scientist and Dramatherapist who enjoys expressing herself through art. She will invite you to explore your emotions through physical expression and activities like role-playing, improvisation, and script creation.

Evangelia is a contemporary circus artist who loves to play with gravity. She will invite you to improvise physically and introduce you to the art of balance!

Vasiliki and Evangelia have been close friends for many years. They met in Acroyoga practice and have shared many moments together!
