Description
Have you ever finished watching a film and felt a tightness, an emotional stir, or a sense of reflection?
“More than other arts, or in a more peculiar way, cinema engages us in the imaginary: it intensely activates perception, but pushes it immediately into its own absence, which is, nonetheless, the only present signifier.”
—Christian Metz
A cinematic scene can resemble a dream. A good or bad dream, one that has or has not come true. Christian Metz suggests that a cinematic work mimics a dream-like state, and that cinema acts as a vast platform for projecting our own projections.
In this experiential Cinedramatic seminar, our goal is to explore beginnings and new starts. At the start of something new, it often feels as though we are being called by the unknown, and the unknown often requires a new understanding. Using the techniques of Drama Therapy and Cinema, we will explore how we approach changes and new beginnings that are taking place in our lives at this very moment. We will seek out the part of us we want to engage with in order to serve our desire for something new.
What would it be like if we stepped out of the role of the viewer and took on the role of the protagonist in a cinematic scene for a while?
Facilitators
Vasiliki is a Social Scientist and a final-year Drama Therapist who loves to play! She enjoys inviting adults to explore their emotions through physical expression and activities like role-playing, improvisation, scriptwriting, etc.
Evika is a graduate of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and a final-year Drama Therapist at the Athyrma Institute. She has worked in psycho-pedagogical fields and has recently begun conducting sessions with adults, based on the theories and techniques of Drama Therapy.
Vasiliki and Evika are close friends and together created the Cinedramatic method. By integrating Drama Therapy techniques with the cinematic framework of Film, they invite individuals to approach and process, in a different way, the needs and desires they currently have in their everyday lives.
